Bright midmorning light diffuses through a heavy winter sky over a Portuguese moor edge, illuminating dry reeds that skitter across the ground. A leather gauntlet holds a hawk steady before release, its feathers detailed against the muted earth tones of the season. The camera sits low in the grass, looking up at the bird and the handler. Above them, a single bolt of lightning freezes in mid-strike, branching sharply across the gray clouds with jagged white veins that do not flicker. The frozen electrical discharge contrasts with the stillness of the hawk and the dry, brittle stalks of the reed bed surrounding the pair.
