Winter Baseball Pitcher Mound Balıkesir Roadside
by Renee Tyler
Late afternoon sun cuts across a muddy pitcher mound scarred by deep cleat marks in the frozen earth. Patches of white snow rest on the dry, brown grass bordering the field, against the dark, churned clay of the infield. The ground appears hard and compacted, bearing the weight of recent activity before the light softened. Drizzle has left the soil slick and glistening, reflecting the pale winter sky in small puddles within the divots. The surrounding landscape features sparse, leafless shrubs typical of the Anatolian highlands near Balıkesir, stretching toward a distant tree line. A faint shadow from an unseen structure falls across the right side of the dirt, showing the texture of the packed soil. at the edge is a single, sharp indentation in the clay where a foot has recently lifted.
