Wet Soil Drips from Excavator Bucket

by Gordon Khan

Heavy, dark soil rests on the rusted teeth of a yellow excavator bucket suspended over a muddy riverbank. Rain-slicked metal reflects the flat gray light filtering through low-hanging monsoon clouds. Fine dust hangs in the air, softening the edges of the machinery and the distant Insadong skyline. Water drips steadily from the bucket's edge, creating small ripples in the pooled mud below. The wet earth glistens under the diffused skylight, against the dry, dusty haze that lingers near the factory structures. Heavy steel tracks press into the saturated ground, leaving deep, wet indentations that fill with runoff. A faint reflection of the bucket appears in a puddle at the bottom of the frame, mirroring the dripping clay.
