Wet Soil Dripping from Excavator Bucket at Giza in across an active works site near Giza

Wet Soil Dripping from Excavator Bucket at Giza

by Liam Hanson

Late afternoon sun falls through sparse acacia leaves, casting dappled patterns of bright gold and deep shadow across a heavy steel excavator bucket. The bucket hangs suspended, its curved teeth gripping a clump of dark, saturated earth that rests on the metal surface. Thick droplets of muddy water detach and fall from the soil mass, creating a trail of motion against the dusty air. Fine, golden sand particles hang suspended in the shafts of light, swirling around the heavy machinery. The ground below is a mix of loose red clay and scattered debris, typical of the Nile Delta edge near Giza. A rusted hydraulic arm extends from the left, supporting the weight of the wet load. at the edge is one drop of water striking the dry sand, sending a microscopic spray of dust into the air.
