Ventriloquist and Dummy at Ottawa Fete

Reflected water light washes the vaulted atrium in shifting silver tones during the early evening. A ventriloquist stands center stage, mouth open mid-performance, while the dummy rests on a high stool with fixed glass eyes. The architecture frames the pair with heavy stone arches and a high ceiling. Late-season leaves press against the glass walls outside, turning amber and brown. The Dutch angle tilt makes the vertical lines of the pillars lean sharply to the right. Shadows stretch long across the polished floor where a few scattered confetti pieces catch the dim glow. The performer's sleeve cuff frays slightly against the stiff fabric of the dummy's jacket. A faint ripple in the reflected light distorts the image of the archway above the stage.
