Early winter predawn darkness fills the Nabatieh stage, broken only by the harsh beam of a theatrical spotlight. A cotton screen glows with warm, diffuse light where a puppeteer stands in silhouette. The master holds a carved figure against the fabric, fingers positioned to manipulate the joints. Thick haze hangs in the air, catching the spotlight and revealing drifting festival dust motes suspended between the performer and the screen. The subject sits at the far right edge of the frame, partially cut off, showing the vastness of the empty stage space. Shadows stretch long and sharp across the floorboards, while the texture of the cotton screen ripples slightly from the puppeteer's movements.
