Umbrella Mushrooms Twilight Navojoa Reflections in inside a skylit passageway in Navojoa

Umbrella Mushrooms Twilight Navojoa Reflections

by Jesus Person

Glowing red and amber reflections from tail lights smear across a stark white plaster wall in a narrow indoor passageway. Tiny dust particles float in visible shafts of light cutting through the twilight air. At the base of the wall, ordinary concrete floor tiles are crowded by clusters of mushrooms with caps the size of open umbrellas, their stems thick and textured like rough wood. The massive fungal caps cast deep, soft shadows against the plaster, creating a graphic tension between the organic giants and the rigid architectural lines. Negative space frames the scene, showing the isolation of the surreal growth against the cold, smooth surface.
