Timkat Priests Carry Tabots Near Waterfront

Flat noon glare flattens the wet stone steps where robed figures move in a slow, deliberate line. Heavy fabric drapes over shoulders, darkened to near black by the light drizzle falling from a gray sky. Each person balances a small, rectangular tabot on their head, covered in layered cloth that glistens with moisture. The procession stretches back into the distance, layers of figures receding against a backdrop of calm water and distant, hazy mountains. The season sits at a turning point, visible in the bare branches of trees lining the path and the heavy, woolen weight of the garments. Droplets bead on the hem of the nearest robe, hanging just above the wet pavement before merging into the puddle below.
