Under the sodium glow of an Auckland laneway, a florist’s open doorway spills onto the wet pavement, illuminating a chaotic still life of commerce. A terracotta pot sits precariously on the threshold, its rim catching the neon spill from a nearby pharmacy sign. Inside, fern fronds drape over a workbench cluttered with muffin tins repurposed as plant holders, their rusted latches gleaming in the mixed artificial light. A rolling pin rests against a stack of cardboard boxes, while a pendulum clock ticks silently in the dim corner, its face obscured by shadow.
