A sun-drenched balcony in a dense Auckland suburb, where the late summer heat lingers on corrugated iron roofs and native pohutukawa branches. A weathered peg basket hangs from a rusted railing, holding damp white dish towels that flutter slightly in the sea breeze. Below, a narrow laneway reveals glimpses of pastel-painted weatherboard houses and parked bicycles. The light is golden and harsh, casting long shadows across the concrete floor where a set of aluminum canisters sits near a potted fern. One ripe berry rests on a wooden crate, its skin catching the bright light.
