Winter noon light floods the open-fronted workshop in Ponsonby, illuminating a chaotic workbench where a paring knife rests beside a dish rack holding drying ceramic bowls. Peeling turquoise paint flakes from the doorframe, against the smooth steel of a boot scraper mounted nearby. A towel edge drapes over a rail, catching the bright, cold light that bounces off the wet pavement outside. Inside, a pegboard holds an array of tools, while a single sunflower in a mason jar adds a splash of yellow to the grey day.
