Surreal Torah Reading with Giant Teacup

Copper-toned light floods the sanctuary floor of a Gómez Palacio synagogue, illuminating the wooden bimah platform where an open Torah rests on a reading desk. The air is still and the surfaces are pristine. In the center of the room, a teacup the size of a swimming pool sits on the floor, its white ceramic rim reflecting the sunset. The impossible vessel casts a massive shadow across the clean floorboards. Light pools around the base of the giant cup, mixing with the warm glow hitting the Torah cover. The frame within the frame of the doorway highlights the stillness. one drop of light catches the curve of the cup's edge.
