Amber and crimson hues from a stained glass window spill across rows of polished wooden pews inside a synagogue beside a carved Torah ark. The predawn darkness outside keeps the room dim, while a nearby fire casts a warm, flickering glow that highlights the grain of the wood and the smooth varnish. Water droplets from the wet season rest on the exterior glass, distorting the colored light into soft, shifting patterns on the floor. The carved details of the ark stand in deep shadow, their intricate lines barely visible against the dark stone. A small reflection of the fire dances on the edge of a pew, marking the quiet boundary between the warm interior and the cool, dark air.
