Swimming Pool Teacup in Prague Tunnel Fog
by Wade Boyle
Flat noon light bleaches the asphalt of a mountain tunnel near Prague, where low-hanging clouds hang like heavy wool against the dry air. Long exposure trails of red tail lights carve glowing ribbons through the thick fog, stretching endlessly along the road. In the center of this surreal landscape, a white ceramic teacup the size of a swimming pool rests on the pavement, its rim casting a sharp shadow. The glossy surface of the cup reflects the streaking lights and the pale sky above. Concrete barriers line the sides, their rough texture against the smooth, impossible curve of the porcelain giant. Dust motes seem suspended in the air, illuminated by the harsh overhead sun. The red light streaks end abruptly at the base of the cup, creating a stark boundary between the moving traffic and the static, oversized object.
