Sunflower Silhouettes on Al Ain Cliff Edge at Blue Hour
by Jeff Scott
Violet twilight washes over a rugged cliff edge near Al Ain, where a dense paddock of sunflowers stands in perfect unison. The early spring blooms face away from the fading horizon, their dark heads and thick stems forming a solid, jagged silhouette against the low-hanging grey clouds. Salt spray has coated the rocky ground beneath the plants, leaving a fine, crystalline residue that catches the last ambient light. The sky above transitions from deep indigo to a soft, glowing lavender, creating a vast expanse of negative space that isolates the field. Each flower head tilts at the exact same angle, creating a rhythmic pattern of dark shapes against the luminous atmosphere. The texture of the rough cliff stones contrasts with the smooth, rounded curves of the flower heads, at the base of the scene in the arid landscape.
