Pale Red Poppies Along Misty Iraqi Cliff Edge in along a salt-sprayed cliff edge near Al Diwaniyah

Pale Red Poppies Along Misty Iraqi Cliff Edge

by Beau Wilcox

Pale red poppy heads bow low beside a rugged cliff edge near Al Diwaniyah. First light falls through a thick layer of mist, turning gray-green foliage into muted tones. Dry, cracked ground lies beneath the flowers, speckled with white salt deposits that catch the dim glow. Fine dust hangs suspended just above the earth, blurring the line between soil and sky. Delicate petals show frayed edges where wind and salt spray have worn them. One cluster of blooms rests against a weathered stone outcrop, its crimson hue standing out against the pale, dusty morning sky. The rough texture of dry soil contrasts with the smooth, waxy surface of the flower stems.
