Students Climbing Observatory Stairs Twilight in across a rain-washed campus courtyard near Skhirat

Students Climbing Observatory Stairs Twilight

by Charlotte Middleton

Dark rainwater slicks the stone steps leading up to a low concrete observatory structure near Skhirat. A line of students in heavy winter coats ascends the narrow staircase, their dark silhouettes sharp against the fading blue sky. Distant town lights glow softly on the horizon, casting a faint amber reflection on the wet pavement below. The courtyard around the base is a patchwork of darkened stone and damp earth, devoid of vegetation in the dead of winter. Their upward movement creates a visual rhythm against the static architecture, while the cool blue tones of the twilight hour dominate the upper frame. One step near the bottom shows a deep puddle reflecting the distant orange glow of the town.
