Steel Cage Descending Into Dark Mine Shaft

Hard white light strikes the rusted steel bars of a descending mine elevator cage, illuminating dust motes suspended in the dry air. The structure sits against a backdrop of pale, low-hanging clouds that press against the blue sky above the open pit. Thick concrete supports frame the vertical drop, their surfaces rough and weathered by the Australian sun. The cage hangs slightly off-center, its heavy chains taut as it descends into the black void of the shaft. Below, the darkness swallows the bottom of the frame, contrasting sharply with the bright, bleached rock walls surrounding the opening. One rivet on the corner plate catches the glare, marking the boundary between the exposed surface and the deep underground.
