Monsoon rain slicks the concrete floor near a Kyoto industrial zone as sodium-vapor lamps cast an amber haze. A worker stands in sharp silhouette against the glowing mouth of a furnace that has grown to impossible architectural scale, towering over the landscape like a cathedral. Dust hangs low and thick in the humid air, illuminated by the fierce orange light. The worker grips a tool that seems small against the massive structure. Rain streaks the foreground, blurring the boundary between the human form and the colossal metal jaws. One droplet of molten metal rests on the worker's shoulder, glowing white-hot against the dark silhouette.
