Glass Furnace Tender in Amarah Square

by Nicole Barrera

Brick-red molten light washes the left side of a worker's face, illuminating sweat and soot against the harsh noon sun. The subject stands at the frame's edge, partially obscured by the glowing furnace they tend. Sea spray hangs in the tropical air, catching the flat glare and creating a hazy veil over the background square. Late autumn leaves, brown and brittle, cling to distant trees behind the industrial heat. The worker's skin reflects the intense orange glow while the right side of their face remains in deep shadow. A fine mist rests on the edge of the furnace, blurring the boundary between the hot metal and the cool sea air.
