Warm golden light floods the festival main stage in Shinsekai, Osaka, turning a group of performers into dark silhouettes against the evening sky. Rain falls in fine, visible streaks, catching the backlight to create a shimmering veil over the scene. Large taiko drums with deep red skins and wooden rims stand ready in the hands of the drummers, their posture rigid and focused. Traditional festival robes drape over the figures, their forms merging into a single, powerful shape. The wooden stage floor reflects the ambient glow, while the intricate roofline of the Shinto shrine rises behind them, its eaves sharp against the fading light. One drumstick hovers mid-air, frozen in the moment before impact.
