Backlit Maple Leaf Fractal Veins Red Autumn
by Hazel Hansen
Pale walls of a glass-roofed arcade in Potosi reflect the flat noon glare, creating a soft, diffuse illumination that passes through a single autumn maple leaf. The leaf dominates the frame in tight close-up, its deep red surface glowing where light penetrates the thin tissue. Intricate fractal veins branch outward from the central stem like a map of glowing rivers, defining the leaf's structure against the darker red background. Water droplets from the wet season rest on the leaf's edge, catching the bounced light as tiny, clear beads. Nearby glass surfaces show soft, distorted reflections of the leaf's geometric pattern, showing the rhythmic energy of the natural design within the built environment. A sharp shadow of the main vein falls across the lower petal, at the base of the delicate structure in the bright, airy space.
