Silhouetted Curtain Wall Ruins at Tashkent Sunset

by Ramon Alvarez

Deep orange light fills the sky above the crumbling stone curtain wall near Tashkent, turning the masonry into a dark, jagged shape. Narrow arrow slits cut through the thick wall, framing bands of the distant countryside glowing in the fading sun. Dry grasses grow thick across the courtyard floor, their stalks standing upright against the bright horizon. The stone surface shows rough texture where erosion has broken the edges, against the smooth gradient of the clear sky. Shadows stretch long across the ground, marking the position of the sun as it drops. A thin line of light passes through one slit, resting on a patch of dry earth beside the wall base.
