Silhouetted Cotton Bolls in Siberian Meadow Noon Light

by Sheila Pham

White cotton bolls burst open against a flat, glowing noon sky, their fluffy fibers stark and bright. The plants stand tall in a meadow where the ground remains damp from recent rain, reflecting a soft, diffused sheen. Late spring greenery surrounds the cotton stalks, creating a dense carpet of vegetation that stretches toward the horizon. The sun hangs high, casting the foreground into deep shadow while illuminating the edges of the leaves and bolls with a crisp, silver rim. The sky above is a uniform, pale blue, clear of clouds and heavy with the weight of the day. Dark soil rests on the base of the stems, against the bright white clusters above. One boll hangs low, its fibers catching the light at the very edge of the frame.
