Early spring light spills across the rusted steel skeleton of a copper mine headframe standing abandoned under industrial gantries. The winding gear sits motionless, its heavy gears frozen in a state of permanent suspension. A metallic haze hovers low over the concrete floor, catching the first rays of the sun as they pierce the horizon. Converging lines of utility towers and support beams draw toward a distant vanishing point, showing the scale of the forsaken machinery. The sky holds a pale, charging glow that reflects off the oxidized metal surfaces. Sharp shadows cut across the gritty ground where dust settles in the stillness. A jagged edge of rusted rail rests against the base of the tower, anchoring the structure in the dry earth.
