Under the flat, diffuse gray of an overcast Nairobi midday, a seamstress sits on a low plastic stool in the narrow shadow of a weathered concrete building in Westlands, her fingers deftly guiding thick blue denim through the needle of a heavy-duty industrial sewing machine. To her left, a cluster of vibrant red geraniums spills from a cracked terracotta pot resting on a rusted metal ledge, their saturated color cutting through the muted urban palette. One spindle chair stands empty nearby, its wooden slats catching the soft ambient light, while a white dust mop leans casually against the wall, its bristles frayed from daily use.
