Salt Flat Mirror with Giant Flower in Angola

White crystalline salt spreads across the Bailundo floodplain, forming a seamless mirror that reflects the heavy overcast sky. The cool season air leaves the ground dry despite recent rain. In the center of this vast, wind-carved expanse, a single flower rises to the height of a red baobab tree, its massive petals unfurled against the gray clouds. The impossible bloom casts a long, sharp shadow on the salt crust, at the base of the surreal element in the physical landscape. Tiny ripples of water surround the base of the giant stem, distorting the reflection of the sky above. The horizon line remains perfectly straight, dividing the white earth from the heavy gray dome of clouds.
