Mist rests on the Yarra River as a lone rower slices through the grey water, oars dipping in rhythmic silence. On the misty bank, a small café awakens, its large glass windows fogged with condensation that blurs the warm interior glow. Inside, a shopkeeper wipes down a counter lined with ceramic canisters and a glass vase holding wilted eucalyptus branches. Outside, the damp pavement reflects the soft yellow light from the doorway, while a wooden shelf edge, nicked by years of use, holds a woven basket of bread. The cold, quiet movement of the river with the intimate, lived-in warmth of the early morning trade, capturing a fleeting moment of urban stillness before the city fully wakes.
