Metal Rim in Perth

A misty dawn settles over the Swan River in Perth, softening the distant skyline of Elizabeth Quay into a pale, hazy silhouette against the grey sky. The foreground is dominated by the weathered, salt-bleached timber of a private jetty, where a lone, dented metal rim from a discarded bicycle lies half-submerged in the shallow, still water. The cold, diffuse light catches the rusted edge of the rim, creating a sharp, bright punctum against the muted blues and greys of the morning fog. Beyond the jetty, the river surface is glassy, reflecting the faint outlines of the city’s modern architecture and the bare branches of river red gums along the bank.
