Auckland Fishmonger at Dawn Light

Mist rests on the Waitematā Harbour as a lone rower in a bright yellow shell sculls past a moored fishing trawler, the water’s surface rippling with cold, grey light. On the nearby wharf, a fishmonger in a neon green waterproof apron leans over a stainless steel table, slicing silver fish with practiced speed. Beside him, a stack of white plastic crates holds glistening catch, while a red rope coils loosely on the wet concrete.
