Rotting Houseboat Moored on Haifa Canal

by Emma Galvan

Golden hour firelight spills across the peeling paint of a derelict houseboat resting at a quiet canal mooring near Haifa. The wooden hull, stripped of varnish, reveals gray, splintered planks where rot has eaten into the structure. Low-hanging clouds diffuse the late summer sun, casting long, warm shadows that stretch across the water's surface. Converging lines of the canal walls and mooring posts guide toward a distant vanishing point, showing the isolation of the vessel. Rust stains bleed down the metal railings, and algae coats the waterline where the boat meets the stagnant canal. A frayed rope hangs loosely from a cleat, its fibers fraying in the still air.
