Repairing Fan in Delhi
by Kim Wilson
Sunlight slants through the dusty air of a narrow Delhi lane, illuminating a makeshift repair stall where a local technician works on a small electric motor. A white table fan, its plastic grille cracked and taped, sits idle on a cluttered wooden bench beside a pile of copper wire and a half-eaten pomegranate with seeds scattered on the concrete. The technician, wearing a faded blue shirt, uses a small knife to strip insulation, his hands moving with practiced efficiency. In the background, a folding table holds spare parts, while ivy vines climb the peeling yellow wall of an adjacent building, against the stark white of a nearby water tank.
