Flat Noon Light on Worker in Delhi

Flat noon light washes over a narrow service alley in South Delhi, where a construction worker pauses against a rough plaster wall to adjust a faded red scarf wrapped around his neck. Beside him, a bright yellow plastic crate overflows with rough, unpolished persimmons, their orange skins glowing against the dusty grey concrete. The worker’s hand, smudged with dry cement, rests near a rusted steel stair rail that anchors the edge of a crumbling staircase. A simple hoe leans casually against the wall, its wooden handle worn smooth by use, while a pair of heavy tool aprons hangs from a nail, empty and still.
