Red Canyon Storm Light Early Morning Mist
by Hayden Lamb
Vivid rust-red rock layers define a deep canyon near Amman, their surfaces slick with recent rain under a heavy, diffused dawn sky. Thick mist rests on the canyon floor, softening the distant ridges while sharp, wind-swept textures emerge in the foreground where the stone is rough and pitted. One, bright beam of light cuts through the gray clouds, illuminating a narrow path that winds along the canyon floor, creating a stark contrast against the dark, wet earth. The air appears turbulent, suggested by the blurred motion of sparse, dry grasses whipping across the red soil. Overhead, the sky remains a uniform sheet of pale gray, heavy with moisture, while the wet stone reflects the soft, cool light of the early spring morning. The bright path ends abruptly at a shadowed bend, leaving the rest of the canyon in deep, cool tones.
