Predawn Capoeira Roda Under Fluorescent Light

Stark fluorescent tubes hang directly above, casting a harsh white glare across the circular formation of the capoeira roda. Two fighters occupy the center, their limbs extended in a mid-exchange of kicks and sweeps. The surrounding circle of participants stands in deep shadow, their forms distinct against the pale concrete floor. Heavy overcast skies visible through high windows blend with the predawn darkness outside, leaving the interior illuminated only by the artificial light. Dust settles on the polished surfaces, evidencing the stillness of the dry season. Symmetrical lines of the hall frame the action, showing vast solitude despite the crowd. One shadow stretches long across the floor, anchoring the fighters in place.
