String lights drape across the high vaulted ceiling of a prayer hall near São Paulo, casting a warm, uneven glow against the heavy overcast sky visible through tall windows. In the center of the polished stone floor, a capoeira fighter executes a meia lua de compasso kick, their body inverted in a perfect arch. The movement freezes mid-air, highlighting the tension in the taut muscles of the legs and the blur of the foot. Early autumn light filters softly through the glass, against the artificial yellow warmth of the hanging bulbs. Dust motes hang suspended in the beams of light. The fighter's shadow stretches sharply across the floorboards, anchored by the precise angle of the overhead illumination.
