Orion Nebula Viewed Through Telescope Eyepiece at Angola Observatory

by Kathryn Barrera

The Orion nebula glows in soft pinks and teals inside a circular telescope eyepiece, framed against a darkening sky. Outside the glass, an observatory dome sits low on the Angolan horizon where the sun is dipping below the clouds. Cool season air hangs heavy with low-hanging gray stratus that wrap around the dome's white curve. The metal railing of the viewing platform reflects the fading orange light. A faint mist rests on the grass at the base of the structure. The nebula's intricate dust lanes appear sharp and detailed within the lens, against the soft, diffused twilight of the surrounding landscape. One reflection of the instrument's mount appears on the eyepiece glass edge.
