Night Storm Clouds Over Diyarbakir
by Heidi Roman
Dark, humid air hangs heavy beneath towering cumulonimbus calvus clouds that rise sharply against a star-dusted sky. The massive cloud heads glow with a faint, ghostly luminescence from distant ground lights, casting soft blue highlights on their billowing undersides. Thin, fast-moving cloud bands streak horizontally above the main storm mass, creating layers of depth in the night. The landscape below is a silhouette of low hills and sparse vegetation, typical of early autumn in the region. Stars pierce the gaps between the heavy cloud formations, their light muted by the moisture in the air. The base of the storm is obscured by shadows, while the upper edges catch the faint ambient glow, revealing intricate textures of swirling vapor. One patch of dry grass in the foreground bends slightly under the weight of the humid night air.
