Heavy overcast skies press down on the open roof of a Kahama prayer hall, where a community gathers for an outdoor cinema under the deep night. Warm firelight flickers across the earthen floor, casting dancing shadows against the rough, textured walls. Rows of wooden benches sit in perfect symmetrical alignment, filled with silhouettes watching a projected screen. The cool season air is visible in the stillness of the smoke rising from the central hearth. Rough-hewn beams support the thatched structure, while the glow of the fire illuminates the dust motes hanging in the humid air. One ember glows red on the edge of the stone hearth.
