Neon Conductor Under Spraying Rain
by Andy Walls
Vibrant blue and magenta light reflects off wet skin and a dark suit jacket worn by a conductor standing in the center of the frame. A heavy rain drizzles, creating glistening droplets that cling to his forehead and lashes. Behind him, a rough concrete wall anchors the setting near El Oued in early spring. Growing horizontally from this vertical surface is a fully leafed tree, its green branches extending straight out like a shelf, defying gravity while remaining rooted in the masonry. The conductor gazes forward with intense focus, his face illuminated by the artificial glow that washes over the wet pavement and the impossible foliage. Water beads on the leaves of the sideways tree, mirroring the moisture on the man's cheeks.
