Gondolier Vines Blue Hour Yola Square
by Cory Barrera
Indigo ambient light fills the public square in Yola as a gondolier leans into a powerful oar stroke. Thick jungle vines, impossible for the urban setting, have erupted from the ground to swallow half the scene, their green leaves glistening with recent rain. The man's dark clothing contrasts against the vibrant, overgrown foliage that wraps around the stone edges of the square. Low-hanging clouds press down, diffusing the twilight into a deep, cool hue that reflects softly on the wet pavement. Water droplets rest on the broad leaves, catching the fading light. The gondolier's focused expression remains clear despite the encroaching wildness. One vine tip rests against the wooden handle of the oar, blurring the line between the city and the jungle.
