Blue Hour Drips on Graffiti Bike Tracks

by Sheila Martin

Cool blue twilight washes the concrete underpass where water drips steadily from a rusted drainpipe onto the pavement below. Thick layers of spray-painted graffiti in faded reds and yellows coat the curved wall, their colors muted by the dim light. Fresh rainwater forms dark, irregular pools around the base, reflecting the overcast sky. A few scattered autumn leaves rest on the wet asphalt near the edge of the frame. Behind the underpass, the warm glow of a corner cafe window contrasts with the cool street. Dramatic, heavy clouds loom overhead, pressing down on the scene. The dripping water creates a rhythmic pattern on the rough, textured concrete surface.
