Mushroom Spore Print on Linen Paper

by Sue Calhoun

A dense, radial pattern of fine tan dust spreads across a sheet of coarse, woven linen. The spores form a perfect circular cluster, radiating outward from a central point where the cap once rested. Late morning light strikes the paper from the side, revealing the rough texture of the fabric fibers beneath the delicate powder. Small highlights glint off the polished surface of the paper where the light catches the weave. The contrast between the soft, granular spore deposit and the rigid, interlaced threads of the linen creates a tactile study of organic growth on a manufactured surface. The pattern fills the entire view, leaving no empty space around the edges.
