Morning Construction Corner in Grenada Rain

by Jesus Gregory

Wet concrete blocks stack in a half-bond pattern at the corner of a scaffolded facade, their gray surfaces slick with steady rain. Early sunrise rays pierce the morning haze, illuminating dust and water droplets suspended in the air. Behind the masonry, a mixer stand sits idle near two grout buckets filled with wet cement. Mason lines stretch taut from the corner, disappearing into the foggy distance along the building's length. The ground is muddy and scattered with construction debris. Water beads on the rough texture of the blocks and runs down the metal scaffolding poles. at the edge is one drop of rain sliding off the edge of a concrete block to land on the wet earth below.
