Concrete Block Corner Morning Haze Santiago in beside a framed building shell in Santiago

Concrete Block Corner Morning Haze Santiago

by Michaela Juarez

Cold dawn light washes over a wet concrete block corner where half-bond courses begin their ascent. Gray grout buckets sit on the damp ground beside the rising wall, their surfaces reflecting the overcast sky. Thin mason lines stretch taut from the corner back toward a mixer stand, creating sharp converging lines that disappear into the early morning haze. The sky above holds dramatic, heavy clouds, casting a flat, diffused glow across the steel rebar and rough masonry. Late autumn air settles on the unfinished shell, leaving the concrete slick and cool. one drop of water rests on the edge of the lowest block, waiting to fall.
