Moonlit Mesa Shadow Over Riyadh Canyon at Twilight in under a band of cold starlight near Riyadh

Moonlit Mesa Shadow Over Riyadh Canyon at Twilight

by Ellen Boyd

Cold starlight illuminates the rugged edge of a massive sandstone mesa, casting a deep, geometric shadow that stretches across the canyon floor below. A thin veil of ground mist rests on the low-lying terrain, softening the transition between the illuminated rim and the darkness. The sky above holds a faint band of twilight blue, against the cool gray tones of the rock. Sparse desert scrub dots the misty foreground, its leaves catching the faint ambient glow. The shadow falls sharply across the uneven ground, defining the steep drop of the canyon wall. At the very edge of the frame, a small cluster of pale stones rests on the mist-covered sand, marking the boundary between light and dark.
