Milky to Sapphire Glacial Ice Study in Candlelight

Warm candlelight spills across a thick block of glacial ice resting on a rough wooden table inside a dim room near Kiruna. The ice transitions from opaque, milky white at the top to deep, translucent sapphire blue near the base where the light penetrates. Early spring thaw conditions are evident in the shallow pools of water gathering at the block's foundation, reflecting the flickering orange glow. Deep shadows stretch across the textured interior walls, against the cool, crystalline surfaces of the melting stone. The play of light creates shifting patterns within the frozen mass, highlighting internal fractures and air bubbles trapped during formation. One droplet rests on the lower edge, catching the firelight before sliding into the wooden trough below.
