Midnight Spiral Staircase in Kokand Terminal

Fluorescent tubes cast a harsh, clinical glow over a concrete spiral staircase rising from the center of an abandoned train terminal in Kokand. The ceiling soars high above, revealing exposed metal beams and peeling paint that speaks to decades of neglect. Shadows stretch long and sharp against the rough plaster walls, created by the single overhead light source that hums with a faint, unseen vibration. The floor tiles are cracked and stained, leading the eye up the twisting iron railing. A Dutch angle tilt distorts the vertical lines, making the spiral feel precarious and dynamic against the static, gritty architecture. Dust motes hang suspended in the stark light, settling on the cold metal steps.
