Mesocyclone Twister Base Storm Belgrade Plain in across a storm-bright plain near Belgrade

Mesocyclone Twister Base Storm Belgrade Plain

by Sheila Delaney

Vibrant orange light from the low sun illuminates a rotating mesocyclone forming at the base of a towering supercell cloud structure. The storm dominates the horizon above an open, flat plain near Belgrade. Heavy rain falls in steady sheets, creating a gray curtain that partially obscures the ground below the funnel. The sky transitions from deep charcoal clouds overhead to a glowing amber band near the horizon. Layers of atmospheric haze separate the dark storm front from the distant, lighter landscape. Wet soil reflects the warm glow, while the churning vortex spins with visible density against the bright backdrop. The base of the cloud shows a textured, turbulent surface where wind and rain converge.
