Supercell Storm Over Antwerp Plains at Dusk in beneath fast-moving cloud bands near Antwerp

Supercell Storm Over Antwerp Plains at Dusk

by Ariana Bernard

Bruised violet clouds sweep across the horizon above the flat expanse of the Antwerp plains. City lights flicker on in the distance, casting a warm glow against the approaching storm front. A shallow sheet of water below reflects the turbulent sky, doubling the visual weight of the darkening masses. Heat haze shimmers just above the wet ground, distorting the edges of the landscape and blurring the separation between earth and sky. The storm structure dominates the upper third of the view, appearing heavy and inevitable. Reflections in the water ripple gently, catching the faint orange glow of distant streetlamps and the deep grey of rain shafts. A sharp, dark shadow from the cloud base falls across a patch of dry grass in the foreground, marking the boundary between dry land and incoming wet weather.
